Robert E. Blevans
Certified as a family law specialist by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization since 1983, Robert’s practice is limited to representing clients in complex family law matters. Robert is a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (the Academy), a national organization limited to the most experienced family law lawyers throughout the country. He was a member of both the Northern and Southern California chapters of the Academy, and was elected and served as President of the Northern California Chapter. Robert is the only attorney in Napa County who has been granted a fellowship to the Academy.
He has also consistently been selected as a Northern California “Super Lawyer,” and has the distinction of being repeatedly named one of the “Top 100” Super Lawyers in Northern California.
Robert’s practice emphasizes traditional client representation and litigation. While Robert practices primarily in Napa, California, he does accept complex matters in Marin and Sonoma counties. Robert has extensive experience and expertise in handling cases in involving significant assets and complicated issues, particularly those involving issues of valuation and disposition of partnerships, professional practices, closely held corporations and real estate investments. He has resolved by settlement or litigation numerous cases involving apportionment of separate and community property interests in real estate and businesses. Robert also counsels clients in the preparation of Premarital and Marital Agreements, and helps them avoid creating unintended community property interests in separate property.
Prior to moving to Napa County in 1995, Robert practiced law for 18 years in Los Angeles, California with the firm of Blevans & Greenberg. While in Los Angeles, Robert was appointed to serve as a Judge Pro Tem, a mediator for the Family Law Department of the Los Angeles Superior Court, and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Beverly Hills Bar Association, Family Law Section.
In addition to traditional client representation, Robert has been retained as an “expert” by other family law attorneys to evaluate and render opinions on whether family law lawyers have met the standard of care in representing clients. Other family law attorneys have retained him to resolve complex disputes as both a mediator and a private judge.
Robert received his Juris Doctorate in 1977 and was admitted to practice in California that year. He was first certified as a Family Law Specialist in 1983 by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. Robert has held the Martindale Hubble AV rating (the highest peer rating) since the early 1980’s. He also lectures extensively on family law topics throughout the state, and is a contributing editor to the Continuing Education of the Bar’s publication on family law.
